The New Breed of Search Moves up a NotchThe social bookmarking Web service, Digg.com, recently redesigned their Web site and introduced more categories and additional user features. We like Digg.com and we think the Web site has just got better. We see Web services like Digg.com as the new breed of search. Many would not label Digg.com as a search engine, but their Web service is about finding and discovering Web sites of interest to its users submitted by the users themselves. Social bookmarking services can fill a gap that the large search engines can’t fill. They grab the atmosphere of the Web as it is at this moment, it gives us an idea on what interests Web users at the moment and it helps us to discover new Web sites while they are new. We see many opportunities for Digg.com to become the next Internet’s search tool of choice, but that is a road hard to travel and perhaps not its destination, but in the meantime it adds color to Web searching and excitement to Web surfing.
