Folksonomy Touches Web Search

The Web 2.0 revolution is starting to spill into Web search. Web 2.0 services have mostly been anything else but search. Truth be told, the hallmark of most of the Web 2.0 services we have used is low quality search. We have waited for up to a minute for search results to appear at some of the most popular Web 2.0 services, but things might be start to change in the near future.

The idea of searching a database of what others have already searched for is not very new, but until now we haven’t discover or found a Web service that does this effectively.

Prefound is a Web 2.0 oriented search engine that offers people the opportunity to search for what others have already searched for. Bearing the same hallmark of other Web 2.0 services this search engine is slow, but one feature of the service, the search equalizer, got us excited. The search equalizer is a clever idea. It gives users the chance to get search results colored/filtered according to their interests. In order to use the equalizer you have to sign up which is not appealing when the service is as basic as: Web search.
